49th Session UNHRC: EFSAS Side-event/Webinar - 'Human Rights situation in Afghanistan'
At the 49th Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, The Organization for Poverty Alleviation and Development (OPAD), in collaboration with the Foundation for South Asian Studies (EFSAS), hosted an engaging and informative webinar titled “Human Rights Situation in Afghanistan.”For the purpose of bringing attention to the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan, which has been largely neglected by the international community in recent years.
The side event aimed to discuss the impact of terrorism on human rights in South Asia, a region where terrorism has been a major concern for decades. Speakers at the event discussed the numerous ways in which terrorism affects human rights, including the right to life, liberty, and security of persons, freedom of expression and association, and the rights to education and health. They also discussed the role of state-sponsored terrorism and transnational terrorism in exacerbating the problem and called for greater cooperation between states in the region to combat terrorism and safeguard human rights. The event highlighted the importance of continuing to pay attention to and take action on this significant issue at both the national and international levels.
